The Erotics - Today The Devil, Tomorrow The World

'Today The Devil, Tomorrow The World' may be the seventh studio release from Albany, New York based 'The Erotics', but for the best part the band have remained in the depths of the underground. Having first come across the band with their 2003 release 'All That Glitters Is Dead', my ears were excited by the promise that this new album was to be a return to sleazy, trashy, pop metal fuelled anthems that first attracted me to the band...and that promise sure has been delivered!
‘Blast Off’ does exactly that with a devillish growl from the bands vocalist/guitarist and chief songwriter, Mike Trash. On ‘She Sucks The Life’, Trash’s vocals sounds remarkably like vintage Alice Cooper, where ‘Over My Dead Body’ and ’19 Goin On Homicidal’ get things warmed up both lyrically and musically. The angst ridden ‘Anything’ is where the album kicks into gear, with the gang vocal chorus of “I’ll fuck anything, anything, just to fuck you....”. The supercatchy glam metal styled guitar riff of ‘Wrapped Around Your Neck’ is the perfect foil for lyrics such as ‘I’d rather see my hands, wrapped around your neck again...”
‘Hog Tied’ is a rollicking good time shot of bar room blues where I was almost waiting for some tinkering piano to kick in, probably my favourite track on the album! ‘I Feel Nothing’ closes the album with a ballad that is a song that will grow on you with repeated listens and offers a rather tasty guitar solo!
Clocking in under 40 minutes, ‘Today The Devil, Tomorrow The World’ is one hell of an enjoyable listen and should be eaten up by anyone with a love for the likes of Wednesday 13, Alice Cooper, Faster Pussycat, Hardcore Superstar, early Motley Crue and a healthy shot of punkish attitude. When it comes to delivering authentic sleaze rock, not many do it better than The Erotics.
