DANGER DANGER - REVOLVE
Love them, hate them or not even know who they are, Danger Danger truly are a band that really should be taken notice of. With this newest release 'Revolve' due September 18, D2 have reinvented themselves with an album so full of hooks that you'd need 5 pairs of pliers to pull them all out!
'Revolve' sees the return of Ted Poley on vocals and he has never sounded better. Seriously, his vocal talent is second to none and always will be, the man has a gift that I'd happily get for Christmas or a birthday. The long time songwriting duo of drummer Steve West and bass guitarist Bruno Ravel have sat down and written 11 songs that kick your ass three times over before they're even finished. Plus the addition of Rob Marcello, the one time fan now guitar genius in Danger Danger shreds better than anyone I've heard on an album in years.
Let me break down a few of the tracks on Revolve:
'That's What I'm Talking About' sums 'Revolve' up. 30 seconds into this song, I knew what they were talking about, it'd been a long time coming but they were back and I already loved this song and album. It's a great opener, big chorus, bigger guitars and perfect harmonies and it just doesn't stop there.
'Killin Love' sounds like it could be on a HIM record, it's a more
industrial sound yet pure rock, but it's 'Hearts On The Highway' where the album was signed, sealed and delivered for me, what a track!! A) it just starts so I’m already sold and 2) it has a chorus that's so catchy that I needed to go and get a shot! In fact I'm putting it on right now and I'll be back.
Ok, back, and you want anthems?! You got em, 'Keep On Keepin On' is the more upbeat fun Danger Danger of old and has that great message of never give up in a time when people may be looking for those words of wisdom, then there's 'FU$' which is Danger Danger as they are known, lyrically funny yet clever. Seriously how do you get a Donald Trump mention in a song?! Yep, they did it and it's classic. Plus it has 'whoa ohs' in it. These songs are the killers!! 2 of the best I have heard and 2 I'm taking on as unoffical anthems and upon hearing them I'd say you just might too...
Of course what kind of rock album would be complete without a big power ballad?! The answer is a bad one! So Danger Danger give us a couple in 'Fugitive' and 'Never Give Up' and I'm content.
A couple of songs I feel don't quite hit the amazing mark of the majority of the album yet they're still awesome and fit in the mix of these well written, well performed and magically produced songs.
What I’m trying to say is that the 4 guys in the band gel musically. It works, It rocks and I’m not scared to say it’s my album of the year so far, if not the last 2 or 3 years. It truly could be a follow up to their debut album in 1989 and that isn’t a bad thing at all. Trust me!
Like I said at the start, if you don't know who Danger Danger are, you really should check them out. I can't even rate this one as the number would be higher than what it was out of.
Thankyou for this one D2, rock never went away but they're making sure it stays around for good.
Bang Bang... What's that sound?! Find out September 18... Danger Danger are BACK BACK!!
