UZI was formed in Chicago in late 1986 and after several lineup changes over the forthcoming years began an assault of shows throughout Chicago and the surrounding Midwest. Forging a reputation for being a great, high-energy live act with quality songs the band decided to chase their dream and relocate to Los Angeles around 1990.

The band was immediately welcomed in Hollywood as a quality act and only weeks after their arrival they were booked into the legendary "Strip Clubs" Gazzaris, The Wiskey, The Roxy and The Coconut Teazer.  Despite recording some songs during the time, as with many bands who chased the dream, the move to Los Angeles proved to be too much and combined with a changing musical climate, the group officially disbanded in 1992.

Rather than being an “official” album release, UZI’s “Madhouse” is more a 10 track compilation featuring the bands recordings at various stages and lineups during their career.  Clearly influenced by the heavier side of hard rock and metal, UZI’s sound could best be compared to Slave of The Grind era Skid Row with the untamed rawness of Appetite For Destruction era Guns N Roses. Don’t believe me?, then crank title track “Madhouse”, “Mutha’s Knockin” and “Rocker” and you too will see they feature the same kind of energy, riffs and attitude for which those bands were renowned.

Written in the early days of UZI, the cigarette lighter love song “Away From My Heart” is one of the strongest tracks on the album, from both a songwriting and production point of view.

The sleazy musical and lyrically inspired trio of “Raise Hell” featuring Chip Z Nuff on bass, “American Dream” and “From The Gutter” are up there with all your other favorite sleaze rock bands, whilst the horn drenched “For The Money” is another personal favorite!

Among the last songs recorded by the band in 1992 is “Wreckered Man” a rambunctious number reflecting the change in musical climate and as much a statement against the trends happening in music at the time that ultimately brought about a demise of UZI and many others!
