ORIANTHI - BELIEVE
She's Australian, she was about to tour with Michael Jackson and she can play guitar better than me (not hard) but seriously she can shred!! Who am I talking about? Well, I'm talking about Orianthi. Great name and in no way related to the Japanese paper folding technique. What Orianthi is is a talent to be reckoned with. After seeing her play guitar on the Michael Jackson documentary 'This is it' I thought she couldn't get any better. Mistaken. Orianthi can sing and sing well. Her debut album 'Believe' is a collection of great power pop/rock tracks with choruses catchier than a trout at a trout farm and some seriously killer guitar work.
From the opening track 'According To You' I knew I was in for a treat. And after that perfect power pop song it just doesn't slow down. The co writes on this album are awesome, names such as Desmond Child, Andreas Carlsson, Ronan Keating and Steve Vai make their stamp known. What is even more impressive is that Orianthi co writes all but 2 tracks. This girl has come out of nowhere and is here to show us how it's done. The title track 'Believe' is amazing. It's my favourite on the album and can easily be yours after only 1 listen. The polished album is produced by Howard 'I can do no wrong' Benson and his mastery is all over this album. Not to mention Chris Lord-Alge on mixing duties. This girl has some friends!!
This album doesn't slow down, it's choc full of riffs, solos and at times a bluesy almost country feel. 'Untogether' is the first time the album hasn't kicked my ass 5 times over. It has that great power pop chorus and feel but it's very safe and an obvious choice for a single. I like it but I preferred the previous ball tearer that was on prior to this track. When we hit 'Highly Strung' the one and only instrumental on the album we get to hear Orianthi do what she does best. Absolutely shred on the guitar. What I love about this track is the trade off between her and guest Steve Vai as we all know that cat can play so to listen to Orianthi keep up and trade licks is killer.
Power Ballads RULE!! 'God only knows' is perfect. Very heartfelt and personal. An amazing track to stick at number 11 to finish the album but the album is that good that it had to go somewhere.
Moral of the story, this album is awesome. Orianthi is a major talent. I truly hope she gets a go in this industry as she could truly take the world by storm. In fact wanna put a wager on it?!
Check her album 'Believe' out you won't be disappointed!
